Walnut Skirting

Walnut skirting board is becoming a lot more popular nowadays and can add a beautiful look to any room in the house. However, there are some things you should consider before you make an order. At Funky Wood we have seen an increase in orders for walnut skirting over the past year or so, but when we first started to order walnut I was surprised when my suppliers told me to work on between 40 – 100% waste, if you want it to be perfect. This came as a shock but once we put the Walnut through the machine, we understood exactly why you need to assume such a large amount of waste. 

The Walnut comes in rough sawn which all looks the same at first, however as soon as you pass it through the machine to make skirting board, the result is what’s best described as a chocolate and cream kind of effect in the timber. The lighter part of the Walnut is the sap wood, which is due to Walnut being a fruit tree. This doesn’t happen in other commonly used woods that are used for skirting boards. Having said this, you could alternatively have sap on one side and a nice walnut colour on the other side of a single piece of 1″ thick timber. The variance in colour is quite large. Walnut is also very knotty so it is wise to order a bit more than you need. If you like the character and don’t mind a bit of colour differential in the timber then I would suggest buying 10-15% more than you require, which should also cover you for the knots. The cream coloured part of the timber (or sap) does darken down once the air has got to it and creates a nice look. I found this out when I left a sap length on the side for 2 weeks.

All in all when buying walnut skirting boards it is probably best to order at least 10-15% more than you need to save you having to come back again. As walnut skirting can’t really be bought off the shelf (unless it is veneer faced walnut skirting) it is all made to order so if you have to return to the website you bought it from, you will have to pay delivery charges again, and possibly setting up charges, depending on where you bought it. (Funky Wood doesn’t charge setting up costs, but we know some other companies do).

How to wear skirts and pants with large thighs?

I’m have an apple shaped body, i’m not wide but my stomach sticks out, and i have larger thighs. I want to know how i should wear skirts and pants so that I don’t look fat. I have some skirts but i dont know what to wear on the top because it looks weird if i tuck a shirt loosely in.

Initially I bough this shirt http://www.cafepress.com/GeoChemBio.518025857 for my mom but I mad misake in size, I bought XL or XXL (don’t remember) and it was too big.
I ended up giving it to one of my acquaintances (very wide and somewhat overweight woman) and this T looked dressy on her and it really (and quite surprisingly – everybody thought there is no cure for her figure) slimmed her down – the way it gets stuck on upper thighs creating kind of empty space around waist hinting on curvaceousness by not clinging to belly. Also b/c upper print which is not so bad BTW, distracts from it and black color conceals it further
